colour is a whole new way of communicating

Trouble is with the colours that i have slapped on, at my level with colour[since i don't use it alot] im finding it hard to balance it... and in turn, knowing where not to put colour.

Maybe its because there is a greater depth of lines that make the actual imagery. my designs don't exactly have those type of marks... probably only the ninja...

i also tested out aat it would look like if i painted it onto board... just to i could see if it would work on the kinda board that is planned on. using the projection. its makes me feel like i need more work to the design. we shall see... the colours that i used were inks aswell, so it would be advised that i get Primer and some wall painting stuff, ather than the stuff you use for paper.

slap on some colour and we get

this.... i still aint confident with it, i guess that's because i did it on photoshop. it feels like theres hold that need to be fixed!

had a tough week

Ive noticed that things don't ever happen the way you want them to happen to. and on the last day of studio time i felt the full heart if that! 5 days to go and i still dont have my wall up!

Things i needed to sort out:

-The Illustration- JUST FINISH IT FOR FLIP SAKE!
-Blot the wall onto the OTher wall so that i can project an image onto the WALL then PAINT ON THE WALL!
-BUY PAINT *man this time management thing is really killin me*
-Experiment with different colours to see what works where and how

I write up a time plan of things that i have to do for this week, seen as i ususalyl plan things baised on weeks.

The Actual Building of the wall hasn't started but i have written the measurements of how big it will be and all the components needed. mainly to help me out, but i will also go with the flow, things never turn out how you plan anyway even when you spend 4 days trying to collect the right type of wood and putting them together, the design might have to change due to the way things are set out.
Like the example here! IT all is pending on the hole in the middle where My mini Me is going to sit so the design might have to be tweeked as shown here. hopefull this mock up will be a good representation of things. i do have to bare in mind thatthe cardboard is substancially Thicker in scale to the thickness of the wood.

interms of the illustration, i feel like its come a nice way forward. I was stressed before because it felt unfinished. there was an aim there, but it looked like it was just half decorated and there was a certain idea that i was trying to get across. it didnt have a comeplteted feel to it because it needed to be more busy, and maybe have a better sence of focus, interm this would alow me to think about how to use colour and line alot more interestingly, like with the complicated Thai epics i looked at before. just adding the themes to the sides also made a big difference in the design.

Infact it solved the problem that i thought i had. i wanted to encorperate the idea of how imagenation sees somethings as somethign else. i had already made a sheet showing how i made this metamorphisis, but putting it onto the design proved challenging. But thankfully, when i spent time taking pictures of the subjects an idea naturally came.

i was going to try and draw this!!! even tho the Communication aspect is perfect, it seemed unpractical for the style already created. after collecting mroe images of the lace i deceded to just change things based on there cshape. rather than see a mountain as something to climb! see it as something to slide down... this helped with the composition ALOT! there are still more tweeks, but they will be done... the biggest issue is getting the improved design to work with the WALL!!!!

The Wall

Were making the wall! Yup its gonna be made out of loads of little pieces of wood since i cant afford any massive planks. but fundamentally i think that it works well with the idea of of making things, rather than just getting a wall to paint on, doing that kind of kills the whole idea of sock boy Zeek. So it would make a nice change from the typical canvas!

Anyway, the scrap hunting has been harder than i thought it would since ive had to think bout sizing things up! but ive been trying to sort all of that out in another sketch book.

Another thing thats been frustrating is that i cannot get the Overhead projector Till WEDNESDAY! which means 2 very valuable studio days with no massive projective experimentations. so in the meantime ive been focusing the studio time on making the wall, and trying to fully finish the Design of the mural. i wanted to make the contrast between makign and the graphics really strong, and effective at the same time. Ive been experimenting with Paper..... *loser* but seriously, on Paint there is this option to split the picture into loads of different A4 pieces. this kinda emulates the idea with the wall so i thought id give it a go.

The image its more of a complete mash up of the individual ideas i had. i think there there needs to be a lot more depth to it... maybe i need to ad more things.. or be more picki with the lines

undenyably the koolest fight ever!

i know ive posted something like this before, but its SOO RELEVANT!

obviously done with models! but man they made it look SOOO EPIC! i want an EPIC effect with my project piece.
i only really googled this so that i could get a picture of a megazord for my project! Behold! THE ULTIMATE LEGOMEGAZORDMAN!

..... coming soon

Style Vs Communication

It comes back to this!i found two really important images that just sums up things through style and communication. ive been battling with the ideas. trying to figure out how im going to style the piece. These piece both have things about them that appeal to me and the way i wish to present my piece. First of their both Murals! th first on a Ceiling and another on a wall. BIG SCALE :D

Mcfaul Studios

STYLE

These guys jsut did an awsome job on the ceiling. A mural for two kids on there bed room ceiling. I think what fundimentally stricks me about the image is the Feirce lines and colours used. There is that Primary colour scheme that really appeals to me, from lookin at both Keith Herings works and Mark Wigans murals. It really has a boldness to it which gives me confidence in working with simple colours. i was initially afriad of not going into details and heavy colour schemes because i thought i would loose the detail in the ideas, i thought i had to be vivid with the colours, but this proves that i just need to have something to balance the Brighhtness of the simple colours used.

And to compliment that, i would neeeeeeed to use BLACK! and in a CLEVER way. not sticking to the same sized lines, varying it about depending on the imapace i wish to make. There is a keen relationship with this image and the Epics that i have been looking at. I was talking earlyier about how there was an obvious difference from western art to Indian/worldly epics, mainly because of the way that they creat images from a 2d - 3d understanding. This piece is massive and epic yet works in the similar style to thoses Worldly epics of Rama, and they have done this with colour as well as lines. it you look carefully there are some lines that arent black, but are a different colour, this stops it from being flat.

SORRY FOR WRITING SO MUCH PEOPLE! i know ma vocab is terrible >_<

Communication

This IS EFFECTIVE. The idea is so solid, that it reminds me of mine, and what im trying to do. Its A Giant ROBOT! if you didnt notice already, that is entirly made out of houses! I have a Robot made out of houses in my Worksheets, but their no where near as thought about as this is. Another relevent mural artist that obviously liked powerrangers as a child aswell hehe. The idea is fleshed out so well, like the way a childs mind would work, seeing something that could be made out of anything. Alot like how i made my mini-me zeek. Most people i showed this image too didnt even notice what it was untill a second or third look, and thats probably part of the novelty. kids see stuff that we dont.

As well as the main attraction the theme of adding things from childhood is repeated witht the mini version of shaggy and scoobydoo in bottom left. Thowing things in there as obviouse reference can be just as effective as complex ways of telling a story, heck, I even think that thoses Colourful Creatures the illustrators got dotted around are infact HIS MINI-ME! They tell the story as if there screwing about with the City and made that robot. see them in the Top left corner of the picture. This is helpfull as ive oftern been worried about how to show that my mini me sees the climbing frames as a mountain. Maybe i would think about actaully putting him in the piece, or loads of him...

When originally writing up with post i thought that id have to choose what id go for.... Stlye OR Communication, since im only in foundation i thought it would be best if i go Communication but seen as when ever i go too far on communication i dont execute it well. And when seeing the Ceiling Drawing i thought i would pick style for this round.... but through typing this up, i figured that i could really[with loadsa tests] come up with a combination.

*smiles* someone best be reading this... took me ages.

Its all coming together

its Gonna be hard to get all the things ive been solving out on to this blog sooooo im gonna try and do it in sections of days... ok:

Last Week - Confusuion and Lazyness!

I kinda knew what to do next... Come up with all the aspects of my childhood that i wanted to work with. But it was completely difficult to randomly come up with an ideas i know what i wanted to do with them. My Tutors gave me a bunch of artists to look at. i could see how they related to my work, and they all made sence to me, but i didnt feel that they were showing me a way forward.

That week felt really unproductive and mainly because i still hadnt found out how i would best display the images i had in my head... how ever i was able to actually start experimenting with colour nicely from lookin at Wigans work. turns out ive found it easier to put colour on something first, then Draw into it. which in a way makes sence. with dreams and nightmares, colours are the things that actually have a bigger impact then the details of the objects in them.

i did a little bit of compisition work in a page of my sketch book that was quite a good representation of what i wanted to do but it was one of thoses images that would be effective if small, but im not sure about how effective it would be Larger.

and because i didnt know all the aspects of my childhood i wanted to talk about i found drawing it out difficult. EHH MORE RESEARCH!

- i wanted to get more of the real stuff, not necessarily the stuff you read out of books but the stuff you see in people. it wasnt like a servay, but i basically got people around the studio, from tutors to students and students from the other rooms to Draw something from there childhood...anything, i really didnt want to limit what people had to say by saying draw a toy, or draw something from TV because i had alreayd looked at those things. Experiances was something i was mostly interested in. Even the people that i was collecting from thought that it wasnt that relevant to what i was doing if it was other peoples experiances. I was secpetical...

THIS WEEK - YESS!!!! DIRECTION!

THIS WEEK HOWEVER! Has been like EUREKA!!!!!! Ive basically found a really good way of Testing out images for there size effectiveness AND! I came up with all the aspects of my childhood and imagenation i wish to illustrate.

- Love for Creating worlds

- ROBOTS!!!!

- NINJAS

- Legomen/Powerrangers, and the stories id tell with them

- and finally NIGHTMARES!

The last Was a result of the actual Servay/Collection I didn with peoples childhood. everyones ideas were really helpfull in helping me with the whole projects, esppecially some individual ones that were about DREAMS... and it made me think about my dreams, and the characters that were in them. there a part of your imagenation and im surprised i didnt think about adding theses in there in the firstplace :)

AND FINALLY!

all of my tutors are a genious...

All the problems ive been having with how to work with my imagry have lifted.

Ive always wanted to work with scale, but so i moved from sketchbooks, to worksheets. and from worksheets to 3d! and now im going to cleverly uses a projector! an overhead projector.
