Sock boy VS URBANNINJA

i had alot of fun experimenting with this toy. making him was hard enough but i managed to finish it. OBSTICAL ONE! completed! i did end up sowing thanks to some people in my class, if id have done it all at home i probably wouldnt have finished him. i even took him liverpool with me haha.

Now it was just to give him a Story! i always thought that i was gonna make him a little brother, probably an older brother made like a vinyl toy. another representation of me. we could have Stof toys VS action figures!

well you think of things that you liked as a kid, and when i got to a certain age, powerrangers and ninja turtles were in high interests, so i decided to take a few pictures, jsut to experiance things you did as a child. Turns out i made a story out of it without nowing!

HE Tries so hard! but he still cant catch Little Zeck! [name given by nakeem!]

Designing the toy

At the moment im not really thinking about what the toy will do, more about how i can relate it to what im doing. maybe i should make it have moving arms, or maybe i should make it cuddly. two things that kids have. ACTION FIGURES and SOFT TOYS. Well maybe i should look at what part of child hood before i make that desicion, since as you get older, i think action figures make more sence.

i found a really cool website that works with vinyl toys really well, you can buy them from here, but since trhey have a massive selection it could be of some use.

only problem with vinyl toys is that they dont necessaryly represent children, more adults who like to collect things... well see what i can gather/make. collecting things from childhood can actually help me with the designing.

Black ranger

FOR REAL! you cant blame me for drawing the way i draw! just look at the things i used to watch!

IT had fighting! and ROBOT DINOSAURS!!!!! WHAT BEATS ROBOT DINOSAURS!!!!?

WHAT! i liked power Rangers OK!

oh the memories....

IDEAS IDEAS IDEAS!!!!

my mind is split in two atm !

Besides the very VARY bad news i got today, im in two minds as to what i wannadrive forward. the original iead i had for my proposal was to do a mural, but for some reason making something 3d really seems like the way to go.... ive never tried it before but after looking at the idea that children are inspried when they touch things it pretty much makes me want to make a toy.

the funny thing about theses toys is that they actuallty physically remind me of some the work ive been looking at. like Matt Robinsons work, they seem very now, and new, i wanna try and see if i could make one just for experimentations sake. besides, you can even draw on theses things, which makes them even more personal.

In a way i could create something 3d that relates to themural. like make a little model of my mini-me as like an artist with a magic paint brush lool. then have a Painting on a massive wall that entires people into a new world! MAN I JUST CAME UP WITH A BRTILLIANT IDEA. it Strings together Children[making a toy] murals[the painting/drawing relating to the childhoodambitions] and the trigger, unlimited![an installation! of the painting breaking away from something like a frame or a door]

ok, ill get drawings up pronto!

THIS SONG BASICALLY SINGS WHAT I WANNA ILLUSTRATE!

YES! my sister forced me to go and what this film when it came out!but this song actually pinpoint what i actually want to say... its talking about being adventurous in everything you do when your a lil kid. pretty much something that Ive always had and i felt like its been something that helped me with my creativity. Now days i jsut draw it, but i do try to live it when ever i can :)

I also found that I like working with songs, i think its the fact that i get to interpate it with colours and maybe even characters, the project really makes me feel like i wanna base it around self portraits, but maybe i should look into other peoples child hood, and have interviews.

on a more mature note *smiles* Ma hair was big enough today that my sister made me anteners from.

Daily Drawing & Museum of childhood talks

my daily drawing. this one was influenced by Matt Robinsons works... In my own fashion, i wanted to just experiment with inks rather than acrilics for a good chance to blab paint on. Then working over it... its quite serious but has the line Cartoon effect. this is baised on how i constantly wanna climb things.

The museum of childhoods website has a Page Explaining how they Believe everyone has creativity. It talks about the things that children do to Spread there creativity and to exersize it and intern, we should do the same thing if we wanna carry on down the creative path. They have 4 rooms that allow the kids to:

Imagine

Be Inspired

Explore

Make it Happen

When you think back, it makes sence as to how creative people actually do things. i think the trouble that i have is that i get them in all sorts of wrong ways round. like my example would be more like:

Imagine

Make it Happen

Explore

Then-

Be expired... then make it happen, then Flop :P

in think you jsut look at things to understand them more when your a child, i should take into concideration the Processes i should go through. Infact! I used to do this? at GCSE without noticing it. looking back at your old work really does make you realise things about your past that were important.

He just kicks ass!

CONTINUOUS LINES! LOVE THAT!

At the Rooted Exhibition i was blown away by some of the stuff i saw. manly by alot of the Installation stuff, even tho I didn't understand half of it. but the thing that really caught my eye was this 3rd year Graphic design student called Matt Robinson from Kingston university. Hes work really stood out for me as something quite stylised and confident. From my other post his work would be rcognised as the sorta street styled stuff, that had a really humarouse zombie look to it hehe. it was nice to see personality in what he does.

Neway heres some of his stuff that I Really liked! Its Damn Bold!

Matt Robinson's Flickr

His Flikr Page is cool aswell, opend me up to all the other type of imagemakign he does. I guess the fact that he is a Graphic designer means that hes already aided in the understanding of compotition and mark making, from a different Communication point of view. Were As im doing illustration, i hope to work with and learn from Designers aswell as artist...

Funily enough he saif that hes gonna probably pursue his Illustration career More than being a Designer, "You gotta want to draw every day if you wanna be an illustrator" he said wen we talked.... So true haha.

I can Funidmentally imagine his stuff as a Mural Already, even with the Textures used

ROOTED PROJECT!

JUST READ

My work has been up in a gallery for the first time ever... quite an experience. makes me think bmore about how i would want something to be Shown. UNLIMITED!

Even if the work that i put up was nice, i dont think it had that much of a standing out of the crowd feel. Probably because it was black and white, aswell as the fact that they were small in comparrison to the other pieces.

Hats and galleries

Feels completely irrelevant, but i feel like for some reason i should be putting it up. i went to an exhibition about hats.... thats right! HATS?

Its was awsome! things that impressed me the most is the fact that there was this HUGE HAT/Tiara thing that had a giant rose sticking out of the top of it. that would so be something id wanna do, cause to be perfectly honest, Hats don't really have that much of a purpose.... even in the army... why when there not fighting do they wear hats?

And the metropolis Film was also featured there.... which was actually kinda relevant because It was one of those films i told myself id watch because of the way it created the idea of scale. I should check that out soon and give you a little bit of a review basied on my project.

okokok The reason i brought this up is because i went to like 3 galleries on this day :P

- V&A: for HATS
- National gallery.... would you believe the fact that ive never been there before haha
- National Portrait gallery.... never been there either :S oddball! [shhhh dotn tell me nothing, eastlondon is the place to be haha]

Inbetween the visits we walked by Central saint martins and saw this window piece. What you see on the wall was her actually tracing what she saw on from the perspective of where she was sitting. kinda cool actually, different ways of presenting a drawing, something that i could look into when trying to design my mural. Haha funny thing about it was how people tried to talk to her. there were all like "Are you tracing?" the girl couldnt hear her haha!
Maybe i might thinnk about Drawing my mural small, then PROJECTING IT to make it BIG! and have the projection as part of the piece.

the whole Trancing idea.

i had to write messages in my sketchbook to actually communicate to her haha quick thinking.
Wanna know why the heck she was doing it visit - denisanenova.com - she proper got a seriouse website aswell.

In the National Gallery there was a Bunch of paintings that were interesting, they were all big and i actually learned a thing or two about how they were made..... LOADSA PEOPLE WORKED ON THEM, at first i was shocked, i thought all hoses big named artists did it all themselves... NO?!?!?!??!?! they had teams of people helping them. The Good thing about the the Gallery was the fact that i got to sneak into The Childrens learning area.

Turns out theres a special Children's Learning program that's been happening. its all about Getting Children to re create images in there own way. They did a project with angels and saints, but created them with limited materials, i think this is were kids really shine, they still have a storong enough mind to create theses things. Really like that!

these are actually supposed to represent an actual painting in the national gallery to do with angels and saints... nice to see kids having a go at it.

At the National Portrait Gallery i saw something that just makes be feel like Painting my mural! maybe should get more observation work, but its all bout my adelecent imagenation?

The frame work of this was cool, i think the feeling of walking into the room and instantly. noticing this was the aspect that really made me like it
